Southern Allotments Society supports elimination of food waste
If you have gluts/ excess harvest on your plot that you can’t use up, the society has built on our connections with local food clubs and charities in the area who would gladly use it and helping to reduce food waste.
Food Charities
The food charities listed below gladly accept all fresh produce donations but have limited cold storage space to keep things fresh. Donations are generally preferred either the day before or on the morning of their food clubs. Any plot holders wishing to donate, please could take your surplus produce yourself to the chosen food clubs. Or share trips between you.
If you have a large excess harvest donation to make, but you do not have a car/ transport means, you could post a message on the Southern Allotments Facebook site and while we cannot guarantee it, maybe another plot holder could help out to transport it to one of the food clubs if asked.
In the future we hope also to arrange some organised collections of surplus produce from the site. This takes a lot more time and coordination to set up so please keep an eye on this website.
Can you support us by giving your time? If so, please contact us via the website contact us page and we will let you know how you can support this initiative.
If you know of any more local organisations who would accept excess food harvest, please tell us so we can add it to our directory!
