Plot holder waste

Plot holders are responsible for the removal of waste from their plot and the Society no longer provides skips to dispose of waste. If you vacate your plot and leave non-compostable waste on the plot, you will be held financially liable for removing it. This is enforced by Manchester City Council and agreed when you sign your lease. In the past, the Society has had to hire (and police) expensive (specific waste type) skips (circa £700) to remove rubbish abandoned on plots after they have been vacated and as well as volunteers having to spend weekends clearing someone else’s rubbish, this is a complete waste of the Society budget so skips are only (and now rarely) hired for specific work day tasks.

The Society operates a Re-use, Recycle or Donate approach to plot management and also provides a managed nature reserve space in which to place organic-only vegetation and bare, untreated wood.
The nature reserve organic waste deposit system is not an automatic right and will be closed permanently if abused. Please help keep this important area free from polluting waste.

If you have useable but non-compostable items that you wish to donate , you can advertise these on the private Facebook group or ask a committee member to do this for you.
Please do not leave unwanted items in or outside the cabin area as they are binned immediately and which someone else has to do.

If you have spare or unwanted tools and want to see them go to a good home, you can donate them to the Society and we will ensure that the people who need them the most will benefit.

Dumping organic waste over fencing

Any plot holder caught doing this will be evicted from the site immediately – dumping on or near the nature reserve site goes against everything that the Society stands for and plot holders should ideally be composting waste where possible or waiting until the nature reserve is open again at the weekends.
